MontroseAccess is the operating name for The Queensland Society for Crippled Children. The organisation was established in 1933 in response to the polio epidemic, where we originally provided institutionalised care for children affected by that disease. |
Today MontroseAccess is a community-based organisation, which provides support services to over 500 children with physical disabilities and their families. Our aim is to assist these children to achieve their maximum individual potential for participation in the community.
Broadly, Montrose Access services include:
- Community-based therapy services, including occupational therapy, physiotherapy, social work and speech pathology
- A recreation program, offering individual recreation counselling, activities and camps that enable children to enjoy leisure activities similar to those of their peers
- In-home respite services, regular assistance in the child's home, enabling families to care for their child at home
- Out-of-home respite services, providing short-term centre-based care for children whose families need a break from giving ongoing (often 24-hour) assistance to their child.
